Excellence - 膧konga A

Commentary

This submission included the whakaeke and waiata 膩-ringa disciplines.

The 膩konga is fourth from the left-hand side in the front row, wearing a pounamu hei tiki.

The 膩konga uses performances from the Regional Secondary Kapa Haka 2025. They are dressed in full kapa haka attire and are clearly visible for most of the video.

This 膩konga was awarded Excellence because they performed in a high-intensity, high-level context, such as a regional or national competition, and demonstrated confidence, creative artistry and technical proficiency. They dressed in full Te Ao Haka regalia, adorning various taonga that lifted their performance beyond the expected level. This 膩konga made minimal mistakes, maintaining the fundamental skills of Te Ao Haka such as wiri, haka and pukana throughout the entire discipline.

Commentary

This submission included the poi and whakaw膩tea disciplines.

膧konga E begins her performance in the front row, second from the left.

This 膩konga uses performances from their school kapa practise. They are dressed in casual attire with piupiu and are visible for the entire video.

This 膩konga was awarded Excellence because they performed in a high-intensity, high-level context, such as a regional or national competition, and demonstrated confidence, creative artistry and technical proficiency. They made minimal mistakes, maintaining the fundamental skills of Te Ao Haka such as wiri, haka and pukana throughout the entire discipline. Also, this 膩konga had good attention to detail regarding facial expression and performance. These elements reflected the nature of the discipline. 

膧konga E - Kairangi, Poi and Whakaeke

Merit - 膧konga I

Commentary

This submission included the whakaeke and haka disciplines. 

膧konga I begins the whakaeke in the front row of the boys' line, third from the left and ends in the front row, fourth from the left. In the haka performance, Akonga I is in the front row, third from the left.

This 膩konga uses performances from their kapa haka performance at the Secondary School Competitions in Nelson 2024. They are dressed in full kapa haka attire and multiple camera angles mean the 膩konga was visible for most of the video.

This 膩konga was awarded Merit because they performed in a high-level context. However, their performance and engagement with the discipline were inconsistent. There were some mistakes, but it did not hinder their performance of the discipline. They demonstrated an understanding of the discipline and confidently conveyed the meaning of each discipline. They demonstrated appropriate confidence and expression and maintained ihi and wehi for most parts of the discipline. And they were dressed in full Te Ao Haka regalia, adorning various taonga that lifted their performance.
