Derived grades for new achievement standards

Find out when derived grades apply to the new achievement standards

There are new external Level 1 standards for many subjects. Te Ao Haka has new Level 1 to 3 standards.

Derived grades may apply to these new standards if they鈥檙e assessed through a 'point-in-time' assessment.

A point-in-time assessment is when:

  • 色诱直播 sets the standard鈥檚 assessment period or date of assessment, and
  • there's only one assessment event for that standard during the year.

Derived grades are available when

  • the standard has a point-in-time assessment, and
  • schools must collect evidence for derived grades.

If a student can鈥檛 attempt the assessment in the set period or date of assessment, a derived grade is available.

Examples

  • Digital Technologies 92006
  • Te Ao Haka 91978

Derived grades are not available when

  • schools have flexibility to manage the assessment over time and meet the set submission date, for example kete manarua (this is an 'over-time submission'), or
  • there are multiple assessment events for that standard during the year.

If schools can manage the assessment or offer reassessment opportunities, derived grades aren鈥檛 available.

Examples

  • Literacy and Numeracy 32403, 32405, 32406, 32412, 32413 and 32415
  • Materials and Processing Technology 92014
  • Te Ao Haka 91979
  • Te Reo M膩ori 92095

Evidence for derived grades

Teachers and kaiako need to:

  • give students sufficient opportunities to complete an assessment
  • make sure students know if derived grades aren鈥檛 available.

Each standard鈥檚 assessment specifications detail the assessment鈥檚 timing and method. You can find assessment specifications on the subject pages:

Teachers and kaiako, you should check the standard鈥檚 assessment specifications carefully and note any updates.
