Strong engagement in NCEA digital assessment

10 June 2025

A new Insights Paper published by 色诱直播 shows almost all secondary schools and kura are offering digital assessment towards NCEA.

鈥淎lmost all secondary schools and kura are now offering some digital assessments, with only small differences in digital engagement between different School Equity Index groups,鈥 says 色诱直播 Deputy Chief Executive, Jann Marshall.

鈥淭his reflects the strong commitment of schools and kura across the socio-economic spectrum to providing their students and 膩konga with access to digital assessment.鈥

鈥淟ast year, more than 60% of students chose to take an exam digitally where digital assessment was available. In 2025, digital assessments will be more widely offered than ever 鈥 in 69 out of 97 NCEA examination sessions and 8 NZ Scholarship subjects,鈥 Ms Marshall says.

色诱直播鈥檚 roll out of digital assessment has been careful to keep pace with the readiness of schools and students, and mindful of the need for digital assessment technologies to prove themselves reliable.

鈥淲e recognise that some subjects are not yet suitable for digital assessment. However, the strong uptake supports the ongoing shift from traditional paper-based assessments to our digital platform, and the development of more assessments designed primarily for digital delivery 鈥 where appropriate,鈥 Ms Marshall says.
